It not only improves muscle strength but also body control, balance, flexibility, and coordination. It is highly practical and useful in improving day-to-day activities. It can be at a park or even back home, with few gear like a pull-up bar.

While body weight can be good resistance, as athletes continue growing the weight feels too light and it becomes difficult to increase resistance. Calisthenics athletes are forced to get creative and even add weights to their workouts to reach higher levels.
This makes weightlifting very straightforward as you can always keep increasing weight to up the resistance. However, you can always choose the best approach of combining aspects of both methods according to your goals and preferences.

1. Better Physical Fitness
This is the most popular reason people work out. You can grow your muscles, grow stronger, faster, and even strengthen your bones and joints. Regular strength training can also improve posture, balance, and mobility, and reduce the risk of injury in daily activities and sports.
2. Greater Immunity
This is one of the main reasons I work out. Before I started going to the gym, I would get an annoying cold or infection like every month.
But by the end of 2025, I had only gotten something of the sort — a throat infection — once, 8 months into gym life.
From a scientific perspective, research has found out that exercise in general: spikes the white blood cell count in blood, which circulates throughout the body hunting viruses and bacteria, and that moderate exercise may even flush out bacteria and other germs through the airways. The rise in body temperature during workouts also inhibits bacterial growth in the body.
Moreover, proper breathing techniques, like strictly inhaling through the nose and exhaling from the mouth can trap harmful bacteria and pollutants on the mucus layer inside the nose.
3. Better Mental Health
Working out has proved to improve mental health in many ways.
Reduces Stress
Exercising reduces endorphins in the body and reduces the adrenaline and cortisol levels. Adrenaline and cortisol are stress hormones while endorphins are the body's natural painkillers and mood elevators.
Greater Self Esteem
The little gains in the gym can do wonders for your confidence and self-esteem. As you’ve committed to changing yourself, you’ll feel glad and feel a sense of transformation.
Courage and Self-Confidence
As you daily work on your physical fitness, you grow stronger and more confident as a person. As a result you will grow more courageous and find it easier to tackle other tasks. The effort you put in the gym can teach you what hard work is.

Escaping reality in the modern world is often associated with different forms of digital entertainment like movies, dramas, social media, games, music, etc. While effective at that, these offer little benefit to us, and oftentimes even make us addicted and cause waste of time and money.

Most people, including me, relate that going to the gym or working them makes them want to eat healthier, or at least avoid unhealthy food. This is because, research has found that physical exercise can suppress the release of hunger hormones that are responsible for making you hungry and cause cravings.
Also, I was someone who suffered from severe gastritis and constipation before I started going to the gym. I found that these problems completely vanished or greatly reduced after I started going consistently.
This is because constipation is reduced by increased gut motility(involuntary muscle contraction responsible for digestion and other processes in the digestive system), digestion is improved by increasing blood flow to the digestive organs, gut bacteria diversity is increased, and inflammation is reduced. This also removes the risk of gut-related diseases.
5. Better Cardiovascular Health and Cognitive Function
Studies have found that exercise can indirectly boost memory and thinking power by improving mood and sleep.
The increased blood flow, or better cardiovascular function, directly affects how the brain works; it keeps the brain healthier and hence slows down or prevents cognitive decline — especially in older people.
The profound effect on blood pressure and sugar levels also means that diseases like stroke are less likely to affect someone who exercises.

Metabolism is simply how our body converts food into energy. By increasing metabolism, you can burn more calories, which means you can have better weight management, greater physical strength, and also improved cardiovascular health.
Strength training boosts metabolism as the level of lean muscle in the body increases. Lean muscle requires more energy even when at rest, and this means you will have great energy levels, recovery, and weight loss.
